In todays day & age, social media and the constant daily bombardment of information has shaped, and for some of us, might even define our self worth Have we lost that human touch? Where birthday texts are the way to go, that an uploaded image of oneself or what they’re eating or the nice clothes they're wearing (well edited and filtered of course!) informs others of how much better one’s life is? Over the past week I embarked on a social media project. I staged a scene where I received an early birthday present from my parents - A holiday trip to wherever I wanted (within reasonable means of course!). I chose..!!JAPAN!! #AhLeeGatoGuuZaiMazda Throughout this ‘trip’ I posted photos of food, videos to let people know ‘where’ I was and ‘what’ I was eating. To my surprise, many people believed me (thanks for trusting me.. T_T.. Don’t unfriend me please). Utilization of social media had never been so intense as I tried to make this Social Experiment as plausible as possible (Looking up flight timings, local weather in Japan, etc..). In the process, I felt momentarily that the project actually meant something to me although it shouldn’t even have..

My "Travel Log": (All photos are arranged in a "before & after" sequence. NONE of the material used is mine except Day 0, credits given to sources)

(Day 0) Travelling to Japan:

(Day 1) Breakfast post settling down:

(Day 1) Observing the Shibuya Scramble crossing

(Day 2) Visiting Senso-Ji

(Day 2) Lunch which I wish I truly wish I had the opportunity to eat this T_T

(Day 3) Tuna Auction in the morning (@hfrgomes):

(Day 3) Pokemon Center

(Day 3) Dinner

(Day 4) Frozen Smore @ Dominique Ansel, yummy! (@sunj_p):

(Day 4) Flight back Throughout my trip, I was glad that people sincerely had well wishes for me. Some even contacted me to see how I was doing. Interestingly in the of process this experiment, I realized how self-consumed one can become admist the "social media game" Not that I'm a celebrity or anything.. But I'm human. It's nice to have people genuinely complement & appreciate your photos/life happenings when you sincerely share them. Just cos a certain someone you follow posts nice photos which portray a certain image of themself, doesn't mean they're in any way better then oneself. I believe that we are all equals living out our different purposes here on this earthly lifetime. My general rule of thumb is that:

If you can't live without "it", most likely "it" controls & consumes you to a certain extent ("it" can refer to anything.. Material possesions, achievements, social media..)

As my New Year only begins during my birthday, here's to a greater year ahead! :P “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
